Gravol Dosages

Gravol can be given to calm animals down for long car trips, moving, motion sickness, etc. Do not give to animals that have a history of seizures. Give by mouth, 1 to 1 ½ hours before leaving. It takes a while for the pet to feel the full effects.

Dogs:  Small dogs 0-25 lbs---------------- 25 mg ------- 1 ½ chewable childrens Gravol or one 25 mg tablet.

             Large dogs 25 + lbs--------------- 50 mg ------- 3 x 15mg chewable Gravol or one 50 mg tablet. 

* If dogs over 50lbs don’t respond to the above dosage, they will need to be examined by one of our veterinarians first before a prescription for stronger sedation can be given; the veterinarian will most likely recommend a different medication such as Cerenia.*

Cats:    All weights -------------------------- 12.5mg ----- ¾ of a chewable Gravol or ½ of a 25 mg tablet.

These dosages may be repeated up to three times a day or every 8 hours if necessary. Keep in mind that effects will build up in the system so that drowsiness (sedation) may last well into the next day, especially if the animal is young, sick, or older.
